Eragon

I love the Eragon book series, and I can't wait until the third book comes out, and that's also why I was upset as I was when I saw the movie, because it was a horrible butcher job of the books...*shudder*
 
I like the Inheritance Trilogy so far, but I must admit that it does follow a similar plot to Star Wars.

Star wars came out in the 70s and was so good because it used very a good plot and very good complications along the way. Many other movies use these to make their movies better, the plot doesn't belong to star wars and there are many variations of it. Eragon is just another epic that used these plot techniques to make it's own plot better.
 
Did I ever say that it was a bad thing? No, I did not. Anyway, Paolini said that Empire was "a very good guess" for the title.

So, who do you think the third DR will be?
 
I liked the first Eragon book, haven't gotten to read the third one yet, but the movie was pretty crappy, it was no where near close to the book. but if it was, it would have been a great movie.

The third one hasn't come out yet.... I suppose you meant the second one :p
 
I love the books. Haven't seen the movie because of all of the bad reviews from other fans. I might not even see it at all.
 
I LOVE the books, and I have reread them a couple of times. I loathe the movie with ALL of my being. I wrote a review of it, along with a rant on how bad it was. :)
 
I read the first and second books 13 times each. I was going for twenty, but my mom held an intervention. Yes, my school is that boring. Yes, it was for money.

Thank you. What really pisses me off is that people call it a rip off of Star Wars, when Star Wars itself borrowed heavily from The Hidden Fortress. Besides, that's the entire point. Paolini said that he was trying to write the archtypical fantasy novel, and he has succeeded thus far. It is not a rip off, it is a tribute that he borrows so heavily from Lucas and Tolkien.

Kinda funny that Eldest ended up being delayed more than a year past its launch date; I preordered my copy from Amazon about two weeks before the first release date, and I ended up preordering more than a year in advance. :rolleyes: I'm not sure if they felt sorry for me, or if it was just a computer error, but I got my copy in the mail a week before the release date! :D So I did what any human being would do: I logged on to the Shur'tugal forums and posted the contents of page 244.
 
Yeah, the movie was a BAD try of the real truth in the pages.
I think the series is AWSOME and still can't wait till the third comes out.

Just a heads up: It's not called the Inheritance Trilogy anymore. It's called the Inheritance Cycle, now that Paolini decided to make four books instead of three. Apprently he thought that three was to big and needed to be broken up.

As for the Star Wars-Eragon debate. Yes it was very similar to that of Star Wars and yes many other authors use that technique to write books, and it has become a common successful model for writing novels. Joseph Campbell is known for the Monomyth, (Hero's cycle) and it follows the same pattern to that of Star Wars, Eragon, etc. It makes many authors become rich and famous due to the fact that it is so popular. But the difference between a good author and a legend isn't how much money they make. It's the impact that their book left on a society and the orginality of it.

1. I already told people about this.
2. Correct, the originality of the book is more important than the money that is made, but for a first book series, originality may not be the primary concern for a new author.
 
It was okay. I didn't like it to much. I think older fantasy like LOTR and the works of Tolkien are better. Todays works of fantasy either have to much( like the Forgotten Realms books but I like them anyway) or are a rip off of Tolkien's works. Some are good though.
