Political agreement

Dakare

Deus Ex Machina
Alright, I think I'm right in saying just about everybody is sick and tired of political discussions. It just tears people apart, and seems to be waaayyy too intellectual for:
  1. The site's population (mainly kids under 18) and
  2. for what the site is (a Zelda fan site).
So who's with me in signing this agreement to not start any political discussion threads?

It's a forum, people can talk about whatever they want. If you don't wanna get involved just don't post in the thread, it's not that hard.

I don't know what you're trying to accomplish by limiting the amount of things people can talk about on the forums.

Just because some people apparently can't deal with the waayyy too intellectual political arguments, doesn't mean we shouldn't be allowed to talk about them.

If schools stopped teaching algebra because some people didn't understand it, they'd be suppressing lots of people with potential.

Do you know how boring this would be if all we talked about was Zelda?
2. for what the site is (a Zelda fan site).
Okay, so you can't post this thread because it has nothing to do with Zelda.

The political discussions have actually been the most interesting of the recent threads, and I don't think it's tearing us apart... we're actually getting to know more about each other's views, there for bringing us closer. Just because you aren't interested in politics doesn't mean you have to ruin it for the rest of us. This 2008 election is a big deal and banning political threads now or ever is a BAD idea.

Are you kidding? Political debates are the best. And its not our fault that we're intellectually cultured.

Well we've gone through 50 posts in the new politics thread without breakking into a flame war so i don't know what you're talking about. The only time it's gotten out of control is when the global warming thread ended.

Okay, nvm then :/

When I said intellectual, I guess I meant experience. We truelly have no idea about the complexity of the workings or the US government. And okay, if you don't want to make a moral agreement to stop numerous threads that just lead to insesent bickering, fine with me. I'm just saying it might benefit the site and relieve a burden on the staff of not having to closely monitor this threads.

And I'm not saying because it's a Zelda site it has to stay Zelda talk. I'm just saying having the majority of talk being about politics kinda defeats the purpose of this being a Zelda fan site, which is normally a safe-haven for people to get away from the "real world" of politics and what-not.

The whole reason I made the thread was because the site was lookin really slow. But I don't agree with you when saying that we don't know much about our government. I think we know a great deal (some of us), or at least as much as the government has revealed to the public. In all honesty if it weren't for these discussions, I would hardly even come on this site.

Well are we talking about government in those threads? No, we were talking about our views on different issues that are effecting our nation. These is a section of this forum called the "Chat".
Chat Just want to sit back and relax in front of your computer and just talk a little, well this is the place. In here we are a little bit more leaniant on what we consider spam, but still DO NOT break any of the other rules.
There's no point in having this part of the forum if we can't discuss current events that come from that icky pooie sunny "real world". Just to clear this up, the staff/ moderation does not need to work extra hard to monitor these threads being some of them (including me) are actively involved in them, so it wouldn't be an issue to just close the thread if someone decided to attack ANOTHER PERSON. Not if there is attacking of an idea.

i perosnally like political discussions... it makes me feel smart knowing that i am talking in a spophisticated topic....keep the discussions because the 2008 elections are coming up and we need to be able to speak our mind about it.

GET RID OF THEM!!! AHHH!! I mean, why do people even care?
Because they live in this country and don't realize that no matter who or what they vote for it will all end the same way- a completely mechanized socialist society in which no one has a will of their own.

I don't think removing the political discussions is even an option. If it was about killing people, it might be different. These threads don't do anyone harm. Well, not any that we'd care about, at least.

While I do believe that we are allowed to discuss our opinions, DO WE REALLY NEED SO MANY THREADS! if we really need to, combine them into one, and sticky the one thread. Have a mod moniter it, and if anyone steps into the "OMG, your idea Sux!!!1!" post type, give an infraction.

That's the problem, it's completely ok to say "OMG, your idea Sux!!!1!", it's just not ok to say "OMG, you Sux!!1!".

I've gotten too many infractions and warnings for both of those.

Well this most recent thread we've been discussing politics in is the thread to discuss all things involving the political realm so... yeah.

That's happened already. Everytime my posts get deleted my right of free speech is infringed.

For example, I'm not allowed to call you a "stupid racist ****", but I say, why not? Free speech.
