That's such a great idea. Thank you for putting that in the political thread.

Yoyolll, don't be so negative. Come on, revolvers are cool! Everyday would be like a western movie! You know with all the gangs, ands vigilantes, and lunatics, and pointless killing, and all that. Plus it would be just like the cold war with revolvers. You know? Just like the cold war. With revolvers. And death with revolvers in the cold war. With revolvers. 'Cause they rock. Just liuke the cold war.

I'm sorry, I never saw it that way. You're right. Guns are cool. So are wars.

quite the sarcasum it is a wee bit annoying I was just making a stastment wheter you agree or not is your american right
You're saying that you want everyone to have guns so it'll be "cool". That's counterable by a lot of sarcasm.

Does anyone find it interesting how certain topics keep resurfacing within this thread?

Anyway guns are tools. Guns should be used for protection and hunting. Not because it's "cool."

Unfortunately it's not always used for protection or hunting. People (mostly teenagers) with guns in their house are in constant danger of losing their temper and doing something really stupid. Guns and teens don't make a good combination. Ever.

So then it's not the government's duty to just ban them. It's the parent's duty to hide them.

yes and the gun laws are only striping the guns from the lawful people the bad guys will still get them just like their drugs

No matter how well you hide them, there's always too big of a chance they'll be found.

And the government tries to control every other aspect of our lives, if guns didn't make so much money they would ban them faster than you can say "kapow".

It's called a SAFE.

No, because that's against the constitution.

O RLY?

Second Amendment said:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The commas are of extreme importance here. They signify the presence of non-restrictive appositions, which are phrases used to clarify. With the appositions removed, the Amendment reads:

"A well regulated Militia shall not be infringed."

Huh. That doesn't say anything about guns! All it mentions is a militia, and the appositive references the militia's arms, not the citizenry's arms. Show me your well regulated militia, and I'll think about it.

The constitution's already been altered a lot.
Yes, but there are several main points that prevent any form of reverse of the right to arms.
  1. It's part of the Bill of Rights (the first ten amendments).
  2. Not only this, but amendments are rarely ever reversed. As a matter of fact, the only amendment ever reversed was 18th amendment (prohibition). I really don't need to explain why it was reversed; a basic understanding of American history will tell the tale.
  3. 2/3 of the states and both houses of Congress need to approve the amendment. Not sure if you noticed, but a majority of states in the Union are against heavy gun control *around 90%, so says my textbook*.
  4. A country with legal distribution of weapons can be dangerous. A country with illegal distribution of weapons is dangerous! Honestly think for a moment, if gun possession is illegal who would be the only people crazy enough to get their hands on them? The criminals! What do we do then, sit around and say "OK kill me!"? Again with prohibition, guess who controlled liqueur...the mob. There was violence, chaos, etc.
I need not explain further ;).

As for gun control... if criminals have enough of a desire to commit a crime with a weapon, they will be able to obtain one some how some way. While people who don't have as big of a desire to obtain a gun for defense won't go through the process of getting it and will in the end have no means for defending themself. The only way to put an end to murder with weapons would be to just ban them, but criminals would still find a way to find them. And more importantly, it's unconstitutional. So a large increase in gun control is unnecessary.

Exactly... too much gun control can cause problems while too little gun control also causes problems . There's obviously a balance that should be reached.

Yeah, like no handguns.

Can you tell me with a straight face that you need a handgun for hunting? How about defense? If you're at home, then feel free to pull out the shotgun. If you're not at home, then it should be rather easy to see the guy trying to conceal a rifle under a trench coat. The handgun has a singular purpose: to kill, and not just kill, but kill people. Complete and total elimination of handguns save for police sidearms has been shown (in repeated cases) to drastically reduce/eliminate violent crime.

Back on the topic of the Second Amendment: it hasn't been incorporated. Congress shall make no law, but the states can do whatever they want.

The criminals, the mob, the crazy people who want to get their hands on them, at the moment just go to a store and get a gun license. At least outlawing them would make it harder.

I've said it before in this post: Guns should have higher restrictions but should not be outlawed entirely, for the reasons that we've already discussed.

btw...even if guns were outlawed crime, murders, etc, would not be vanquished. There are other ways to kill people.

Yeah but guns do the best job.
