Not the hard working doctor that isn't making as much money as the garbage man.

For example, why did thousands of people try to escape East Berlin to get to West Berlin?
And while we're at it, how was West Berlin able to turn into an incredibly industrialized society from basically nothing after WWII while East Berlin lagged behind them?
Money? Why would there be money in a utopian communist world? Everybody could have what they wanted, no strings attached. Greed dies when value loses meaning.

Germany was a a hole in the ground post-WW2. The U.S. dumped massive amounts of money into West Berlin in order to keep it running. The U.S.S.R. did not do the same with East Germany, and so it did not recover as effectively.

As for people leaving East Germany, ..........um, no. There was a reason the Iron Curtain went up - nobody liked the U.S.S.R., save for those in power. A very small minority were able to get out to first-world countries, but they were a select few; most did not have the resources.

Okay... you're ignoring the point. It is completely unfair that the hard working doctor has to work as hard as a garbage man. If they were truly equal then the doctor should work about 20 minutes a day while the gas pump attendant can work 10 hours a day. Then they'd be equal in the amount of work they do.

West Berlin was an island of capitalism trapped in a sea of communism. When the communists tried to cut it off, countries from all over the world chipped in to send food and other items into it.

German Berliner Mauer barrier that surrounded West Berlin and prevented access to it from East Berlin and adjacent areas of East Germany during the period from 1961 to 1989. In the years between 1949 and 1961, about 2.5 million East Germans had fled from East to West Germany, including steadily rising numbers of skilled workers, professionals, and intellectuals
So why were just the skilled workers leaving if everyone was experiencing harsh conditions?
Its wasn't just the skilled workers. Your quote says "including." Why would people stay in these bad conditions when freedom in a wall away?

But thats besides the point anyway. That is just one depressive view of communism. That was an instance when things went wrong.

Communism won't work. ever.

"why would people stay in these bad conditions when freedom in a wall away?"

communism will always be corrupt and thus it will never work
berlin is a wonderful example

Yeah, I really think these communist sympathizers are stubborn. The only people who would enjoy a communist society are the lazy people that want everything done for them. The evidence has been presented over and over and they just don't realize that a communist society takes away a person's individuality. If everyone is equal then everyone might as well be a robot. Not to mention that it's absolutely impossible to set up a communist society in today's world. I've also heard stories of little test communities in the US that just had a few hundred people in it and they set up a small communist society. Those was a mega phails.

First of all, you can't judge or criticize communism because the world has never seen its true form (not because it won't work, because people don't want to give up power). Second, do you mean to tell me you don't believe everyone is equal? And third, communism will work if other forms of government are destroyed and the doctors and lawyers can't see that they can make more money than they're told.

Communism makes complete sense, people who say it won't work simply don't understand it.

No. The people who think it can work can't understand. Stop harping on "the world has never seen its true form" argument. Don't you think there comes a point when too much equality becomes boring? Communism takes away the right of someone to be individual. If you stand out from the crowd then you're in trouble. An american reporter was in the USSR after Stalin gave one of his speeches. The audience was clapping for so long and the first person who stopped clapping was taken away and killed.

How do you suggest we set up a communist society in today's world?

You pretty much said what we've been saying in this argument. If there are people in the world that are'nt willing for the world to be in communism then it won't work.

For a communist society to be set up, everyone needs to want one. If you hadn't realized, communism is not a popular idea. People would much rather prefer a society that progresses and contains individualism. So no, communism is impossible for a number of reasons; one of them being the fact that it can't be set up.

The setting up is the hard part.

Equality=peace.

Think, all violence roots from a superior attacking an inferior. Communism takes that away.

For the last time, Stalin, Lenin, the USSR, ARE NOT COMMUNIST.

!!!

That's the only problem.

Communism is not impossible, it's not near impossible. There is one problem and one problem only: the alternative. Once a communism is set up, the only thing that can put it down is an outside influence.

And communism is a popular idea, just not in America, since everyone is ******* rich.

communisium in it's ideal form is great ad I hate comies the pronlem is that it is very easy for some one to get to powerful in that socity IE stailn it is against humane nature the lazy would just get lazier

Ah yes. One of my rare posts in this thread that will probably be shot down and have me flamed out. Yay.

For the last time, Stalin, Lenin, the USSR, ARE NOT COMMUNIST.

Quoted for truth and emphasis. The Soviet Union was a Totalitarian Dictatorship, not a Communist government. Peace and Order were kept out of fear, not out of peaceful living together, etc.

There will always be some egomaniac nutjob who will see everyone as beneath them, and somehow find a way into power above the rest. Then again, if the people want something badly enough, they'd make it happen and not allow it... The world hasn't tried it, so I wouldn't know...

I'm not... >_>

It would be cool if the educated world (not biased into thinking: ZOMG COMMIES=BADZORZ!111!!!!111!) took a poll to see what the real world opinion on communism is...

Well, the world is flooded with propaganda.

And you are damn rich, we live in the same rich county.

This country doesn't know what poverty is.

Yeah, the homeless people the clog the streets in some cities are just doing that because they can, right?

Quite frankly, yes. Everyone has a chance in America. They might blow it, or it might not be their fault, but they still had a chance. A good chunk of the world was born into poverty; nobody in America has to live below the international poverty line set at $1/day. Nobody. All jobs pay more, and unemployment compensation pays more.

As for the whole communism thing: communism does not force equality, it forces financial equality by eliminating the meaning of money. As money is no longer a factor, either there must be an abundance of food, or everyone must provide their own. Once survival has been taken care of, the rest is semantics.

I work hard. Why should I be financially equal to some lazy *** scum that doesn't. The beauty of capitalism is that the people who work hard are successful. The ones that aren't don't try.

Stop thinking America. Look around you. Do you know how many people are just born as poor people with nothing to eat? These people don't even have the opportunity to get a job. Kids in India are burning plastic off of discarded wires to sell the copper, little kids in Mexico perish everyday in sweatshops, the poor in western Europe and the middle east must sell their bodies to support their families. Just because America is doing fine doesn't mean the rest of the world copes well with capitalism. Stop being so selfish and think of the benefits communism would give these people.
