First, it’s obvious that Nintendo isn’t exactly doing all that fantastic in terms of WiiU sales at the moment. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata recently announced a downgrade of expected WiiU sales by more than 1 million units. Last month’s Nintendo Direct broadcast certainly wet our appetites for what’s to come in the future, but there’s little to be excited about until at least E3 in terms of WiiU games. With that said, don’t expect a WiiU price cut to come out of this broadcast. Nintendo has gone on record time and time again that they are already selling the WiiU at a loss, and that any further price cut would seriously undermine their business model. However, I would not be surprised to see a few game announcements. My personal hope, morose for Nintendo’s sake, is an announcement that AAA games currently only in development for the Xbox 360 an PS3, such as Grand Theft Auto V, will make their way to the WiiU. As to whether or not that happens may only be wishful thinking, but Nintendo really needs to create additional excitement for the WiiU, and they know it.
The 3DS is an entirely different story. The 3DS is performing exceptionally well with a healthy supply of games over the course of the next few months. So far as the 3DS role in tomorrow broadcast, I predict that Nintendo will likely get a bit more in-depth discussing Pokemon X and Y – for starters. The trailer released a little more than a month ago has tantalized fans of the series, and I feel Nintendo would benefit from describing aspects of X and Y in a bit more detail. This next one is really wishful thinking, but there’s also the possibility of another announcement concerning a 3DS Legend of Zelda game. The Project Moonfall folks and I hope that we’ll see an official announcement regarding Majora’s Mask 3DS. In my mind, Nintendo would benefit announcing more details about a new Legend of Zelda 3DS installment at E3, so an announcement regarding a Majora’s Mask remake would fit nicely into a Nintendo Direct broadcast. As to whether or not this happens, again, wishful thinking.
